Finding the Right Binoculars

Finding the right pair of binoculars can be something of a challenge.

With so many brands on the market it can difficult to navigate your way through the many options available. Added to that of course, is the huge variety of binocular types and features, often with confusing sounding descriptions - high definition, compact, roof prism, porro prism, field of view and so on.

Then there's also budget to consider and with prices ranging from less than £100 to well over £1000 where do you start?

Well, the first step is to go and have a good look at the various binoculars available in a shop - while you can search online, there really is no substitute to handling and looking through a pair. Weight, comfort, overall ergonomics and clarity can only truly be determined by trying binoculars out in the kind of environment that you would be using them. And what better place than a nature reserve?

At Leighton Moss, not only can you 'road-test' a wide range of binoculars and telescopes but also you will have the benefit of having real expertise on hand. Our friendly team of staff and volunteers can help you navigate through the jargon and help find the perfect optics for your requirements and your budget.

So, if you are thinking about buying your first pair of 'proper' birding binoculars or are considering upgrading your existing ones, please feel free to pop into the shop at Leighton Moss any time, or come along to one of the Binocular and Telescope Open Weekends.

And another great reason to purchase from us is that the profit made on sales goes back into our conservation work, so you can be confident that you are helping to save nature while enjoying watching it through your new 'bins'!
